So why do we do it?

The lives of our teenagers are being eroded - not in their teenage years, but earlier. When you have a young man shot dead at the end of your road in Fir Vale, or at the other end of your road, kids are being groomed to be 'look outs' for the local drugs dealers in the park - you know that you can't just stand around and do nothing. Though examples such as the couple found just down the road living a nice hi-fi existence in their plush living room whilst keeping their kids starving in utter squaler living in and eating their own excrement - can be extreme, these examples are set against a background of difficulty and hopelessness for folks living in the inner city.

Though many families and kids live a good healthy lifestyle, many do not. Faced with the daily struggles of life, it can be easy to take the shortcuts into crime, or to find solace in drugs and sex which in turn produces a life where kids end up having kids and drug dependency spirals out of control. Many of our kids do not have healthy role models with which to follow - be it being fatherless or having that many step dads with so confusing boundaries in life - and faced with nothing else but the crassiness produced by the media, a whole generation is growing up without a proper reference for living life.

This is where we come in. As followers of Jesus who believe in a God who loves absolutely everybody regardless of religion, race, ethnicity & gender, we have a reference point that guides us in living a healthy productive life. We believe that as we follow Jesus and try to follow closely with Him - our lives are far richer than we could ever imagine. That's what Sidewalk Kidz Klub is about - sharing the life of Jesus with our kids & families.

And it's a life that's worth living.
